    Specter is available in several forms: as a GUI application, as a binary that can be executed like a web app, and as a PyPI package. Official Docker images are published to the GitHub Container Registry (docker pull ghcr.io/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop). Releases before v2.1.2 instead used images from the Chiang Mai LN devs.

    Signed hashsum files are available for all binaries.

    GUI Application

    This is a GUI application with a windowed interface, which includes the Specter server.

    Note on Linux: you need to set up udev rules (included in the archive). Check out the readme.

    Note on macOS: The current build supports only macOS Catalina (10.15) or higher. The app is not code-signed or notarized by Apple, so macOS Gatekeeper may prevent it from opening normally. After verifying the PGP signature and SHA256 hash, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Specter.app in Terminal to remove the quarantine attribute.

    specterd

    Specterd is a command-line program that runs only the Specter server, behaving like a traditional web application.

    Signatures and hashes

    SHA256SUMS contains SHA256 hashes of all binary files and is signed with the GPG key for "Specter Signer 2026". You can get the public key from keyserver.ubuntu.com.

    This key is certified by the personal key of Kim Neunert (@k9ert), fingerprint ECC0 B4AB D74E 716F 5ADE 0952 28B3 58A8 843B 0109. You can independently verify that identity via GitHub's GPG key API, Keybase or the Ubuntu keyserver.
